Company History

Founded in Manlius New York, Village Decoration Ltd. started its production in 1974. The company was begun to develop economical ways to decorate and paint glass globes for tabletop lamps. For the first several years Village Decoration Ltd. mainly developed processes and applications for applying durable, colored coatings to glass. Many different coatings were tested for the glassware products until our strict quality control requirements were met. The coatings were “baked on” in a large batch oven. The result of this baking allowed the coatings to withstand 200 plus commercial dishwashings. With the demand and increasing quantities, the company started to customized painting equipment to fit its needs. As time went on Village Decoration’s reputation for its quality application of paints spread across the industrial manufacturing community in central New York state. As a result of quality standards of painting a local company in Canastota NY, gave us our first automotive job applying a baked on primer to plastic components for Ford Motor Company. While continuing to grow, a unique job came along to clear coat over a hot stamped logo on tennis racket handles. This job was our biggest to date and involved us developing cost effective ways to produce in excess of 12,000 to 15,000 handles per day. Our next high volume production job was painting glass church votive globes. This allowed us to purchase two state of the art chain-on-edge automatic painting machines. With these machines our production capabilities increased to production levels of over 900 dozen glass votive globes, painted and packed ready for shipment per day. At this point we had 10 employees and out grew our first location within an old lumberyard building in Manlius.

Village Decoration Ltd. continued to grow in the glass painting areas with the addition of coating metal lamp bases. This new facet of business led us to expand the business with more new customers. Our next big production operation was coating aluminum products for the cable television industries. Working with Strathmore Paint Company of Syracuse, new custom coatings were developed to our customer specifications. With these new projects on metal, Village Decoration Ltd. chose to work with Anoplate Corporation to apply all the necessary pre-treatments necessary for the proper application of coatings to metals.

Another new phase of decorating was automotive products such as trim emblems came to us from a local metals company. With a contract to paint the Cherokee chief crest and various emblems for the Chrysler jeep division, this was our first effort at multiple color coatings on the same piece. From this we needed more sophisticated masking called an “electroformed” mask. At this point space was becoming tighter and tighter.

In 1985 its founding production manager, Michael c. Robinson, purchased the company. Now being the companies’ owner, he moved the facility in that fall of 1985 to an 8,000 square foot location in Jamesville New York.
In 1988 Shawn Robinson joined the company after 4 years serving in the air force. Shawn headed up a new production area within the company utilizing state of the art pad printing and screen printing technologies. These capabilities increased our market throughout the United States.
In 1993 Jeff Robinson, graduated from Brockport University and joined the company in the capacity of, office manager. During such time, he has computerized all office functions.
Together Jeff and Shawn started the Art Department when art can be made from scratch then processed in house to facilitate any of the printing methods. This timesavings has greatly benefited not only Village Decoration Ltd. but the customer by giving them a shorter lead time and more cost savings in the end.

In 2000, we purchased a new 13,000 square foot building on two acres of land for expansion in East Syracuse, New York. Our new location is only minutes from Syracuse international airport and one mile from the New York state thruway exit 35.

The growth of Village Decoration Ltd. has been due to the family dedication, our valued suppliers and the founders’ tradition of customer satisfaction with cost effectiveness and quality service from start of each job, to the finish. “Serving Industry with Pride”, is not just our slogan but also our daily goal.
